Merle was a woman of strong faith, deep love for her family, and a heart dedicated to serving others. A faithful member of Northport Free Will Baptist Church, she found comfort and joy in her relationship with the Lord. She loved reading her Bible, singing the old hymns at church, and spending time in fellowship with her church family and many friends. Even after her health no longer allowed her to attend services regularly, she remained faithful. She looked forward to worshipping from home, continuing to stay connected to her church and her faith.
Merle devoted 23 years of her life working at the sewing plant, where her dedication and strong work ethic were evident to all who knew her. Outside of work, she found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed crocheting, spending Saturday mornings searching for treasures at yard sales, rearranging furniture to make a house feel like home, and relaxing with a good western movie.
Above all else, she treasured time spent with her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and creating memories that will be treasured forever. She loved deeply and always made those around her feel welcome and cared for.
Her legacy is one of faith, love, friendship, and devotion to family. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. While she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with her Lord and Savior.
Merle was preceded in death by her parents, Bartow Wharton and Julia Wharton; her husband of 25 years, Jimmy Brown; her sons, Michael Stanley and Robert Brown; and her son-in-law, Douglas Brown.
