

Services will be 3 p.m. today at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Faye was born July 25, 1934, to Julia Odell and Winfield Scott Freeman in Moores Bridge, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clark Andrew Skelton; her brother, Charles Scott Freeman; her parents, Odell Freeman and Scott Freeman; and her brother-in-law, Arthur Lee Evans.
Faye is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca Faye Higgs (Bill), Peggy Ann Johnson (Don), and Marsha Marie Byars; her three grandchildren, Ashley René Mayfield (Christopher), Alan Christopher Dodd, and Oliver Keith Byars; her three sisters, Francis Odell Terry (Sam), Beverly Jean Evans, and Sarah Joyce Lee (Dolphus); and numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
A gifted seamstress, Faye made many evening gowns and suits for the University of Alabama beauties. She also made all of her clothes and clothes for her daughters and grandchildren. Faye was a faithful follower and servant of Christ our Lord. She was a member and served her Lord as church hostess for 30 of her 50-plus years at Calvary Baptist Church. She prepared thousands of meals. She was an incredible cook, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. All who knew her were blessed with her grace and gentle spirit. She exemplified John 13:34-35, which says, ""A new command I give to you that you love one another; As I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
Faye's sweet smile, infectious laugh, and incredible spirit will be missed by all on this earth. She lost her hearing at a young age, but she is now with her Lord in heaven with her hearing, her mind, and her body fully restored.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Mayfield, Keith Byars, Michael Johnson, Tony Terry, Justin Terry, and Wyman Brittain.
Honorary pallbearers are members of her Sunday school class, Calvary Baptist Church family, Bruno's, The Tuscaloosa News, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hydrick, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Andrews, loving employees of Lynwood Nursing Home, BJ McCaskill, Wiregrass Hospice, Eugenia Constantine, Najwa Strong, Jandy Hanks, and Tricia Moreman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 1121 Paul Bryant Dr., Tuscaloosa, AL 35401, or Wiregrass Hospice, 824 Western America Dr., Mobile, AL 36609.
