A Graveside Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Memory Hill Gardens with Rev. Sammy Hughes officiating, and Memory Chapel funeral home directing. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Donald Ray Hughes, Sr.; grandson, Donald Harper Hughes; sons-in-law, William Boswell, Jr. and Mike Whitten; mother, Leona Humphreys Dye; father, Malcolm Carr, Sr. (Maxine); mother-in-law, Ora Bradford Hughes; brother, Malcolm Carr, Jr. (Katherine); sisters-in-law, Margie Crowder (Jimmy), Dot Wigley (Wallace, Sr.) and Geri Townsend (George).
She is survived by her daughters, Dawne Boswell (Earl Riley) and Dixie Whitten, both of Moundville, Ala.; sons, Darrell Lee Hughes (Debbie) of Moundville, Ala. and Donald “Donnie” Hughes (Lisa) of Loxley, Ala.; grandson, Kyle Bradford Boswell; sister, Brenda “Susie” Tittsworth (Don) of Dandridge, Tenn.; brothers, James “Jim” Carr (Peggy) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mike Carr (Sophie Trett) of Melbourne, Fla., and Larry Carr (Sue) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brothers-in law, Bobby Hughes (Mildred), Sammy Hughes (Sue), both of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Tommy Hughes (Linda) of Raleigh, N.C.; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Nancy was a longtime member of Little Sandy Baptist Church, faithfully attending until her declining health kept her from going. She was one of Alabama Crimson Tide’s biggest fans! She has worked her entire life, retiring at the age of 78 years from Shelton State Community College, Fred Campus. Prior to retirement she enjoyed many trips traveling with her classmates in Holt High School Class of 1955 and girl trips with her girlfriends.
Pallbearers will be Ulysses “Spanky” Jenkins, Howell Poole, Ronald Range, Mark Weaver, Lee Carr, and Steve "Brother" Carr.
Honorary Pallbearers are her caregivers – Barbara Craig, Sandra Newton and Glenda Robertson; Hospice of West Alabama, Members of Little Sandy Baptist Church, Employees of SSCC, Holt High School Class of 1955, Dr. Jennifer Burdette and staff, Dr. Larry Skelton, Dr. Sakina Kamal, Dunkin’s Pharmacy, and friends and neighbors of the Moundville, Little Sandy and Taylorville Communities.
