To Beth, Candy, Peggy and all--I took many courses in Analytical Chem from your father at UA. I also served as his lab instructor for the undergrad Quantitative analysis Course. I learned very much from him and have used it throughout my career.Im so sorry that he has left us for a better place. He was a very good chemist. If you looked up scoutmaster in the dictionary you would find a picture of DR. Lloyd. He provided much need guidance for many boys and made us truly better men.I'll never forget the many camping trips and summer camps spent with him and assistants Bo Daniels and Travis Mills.Those men gave up their valuable time so we would become better citizens. Dr Lloyd rest in peace and thank you for a job well done.

What a great gift he gave to so many young men growing up in the Alberta City community.  As I go through adult life, I have encountered few men, in any walk of life, that exhibit the leadership and commitment to other people that Dr. Lloyd gave the boys of Troop 89.  The experiences he gave us all were truly life lasting and I feel honored to have known him as a Scout leader and friend.

I was previledged to assist Dr. Lloyd for several years in the Boy Scouts.  No man ever did more or worked more effectively in helping shape young boys into men of honor and quality!

When I received the sad news about Papa Bear, My eyes welled up. Once upon a time, a group of us boys cornered him in the back of the Scout Hut, begging him to change his mind and stay with the troop just six more months. He meant that much to us. And I must admit that part of the pleading was motivated by my own selfishness.  I was just elected as Senior Patrol Leader and I definitely did not want Nelson Lloyd leaving on my watch.  Some of my fondest boyhood memories were under the steady leadership of Nelson Lloyd. He was a walking Scout Handbook and Field Book.  He embodied everything I thought scouting to be. Through him I learned responsibility, leadership, teamwork, confidence and a true appreciation for nature. Papa Bear helped instill those qualities in me. That is the legacy of Nelson Lloyd. And today I can't look at a starry night without drifting back to one of Papa Bear's astral tours under a cold January sky.

Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd were amazing leaders of Post 100 who spent many weekends sharing their love of the outdoors with teenage guys and gals, which included me.  Their dedication to help build the character of countless youth and teaching us outdoor skills will never be forgotten.  I have never forgotten the trips to Philmont and what great memories they have provided me.  They both will always be in my heart.

Dr. Lloyd was a coach, mentor, teacher and friend to all of the scouts who had the opportunity to learn and grow under his leadership.  You cannot say enough about a man who would spend one weekend each and every month and every Monday night for decades helping shape the character and citizenship of so many youth in Tuscaloosa as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America. . . . . .he will be greatly missed but will always be remembered.

Dr Lloyd was a great man and leader.  He taught me so many things from tying knots to pitching a tent, cooking biscuits in a Dutch oven to putting moleskin on blisters at Shiloh.  Most of all he taught me to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind,obedient, cheerful,thrifty,brave, clean, and reverent.  Thank you dr Lloyd for a great childhood that led to a great manhood.  You are greatly missed!

My husband, Jeff,  was in the Scouts under Dr. Lloyd. He thought so highly of him and considered him part of his family. When we got engaged, other than family, he was one of the first people to know. I know my husband enjoyed his years in the Scouts and Dr. Lloyd was the name that was always brought up when he was telling his stories about those years. He will be missed. Bless the family.

Dr. Lloyd was a man that taught boys to be men. Although he was not my scoutmaster he still influenced me and through my years on the Camp Horne staff it was truly an honor to work with him, Mr. Warren Finney and Walter Davie with Troop 89. I can honestly say I am a better man because of Dr. Lloyd. My family will be remembering the family in our prayers.

Dr. Lloyd taught me many as a boy and teenager that have influenced me as a man.  I learned much about humor, leadership, sacrifice, confidence, and survival from him over the course of many years of camping trips, annual trips, outdoor adventures, competition and personal teaching.  This great man will be missed, and this world is much less without his presence.

My condolences.  Dr Lloyd was a great man who helped shaped my childhood like many other boys.  I would never have become who I am today of not for Dr Lloyd.

It was a sad morning as I learned that one of my childhood leaders passed away.  Dr. Nelson Lloyd was a booming father figure that took the time to help hundreds of boys become men.  He WAS Boy Scout Troop 89 and will be missed for his leadership, his strength and his larger than life personality.  Thanks for everything you did for me and my family.

I was District Scout Exec in Demopolis when I came out of army in 1964.  Nelson Lloyd remains as one of my all time favorite scoutmasters and man's man.  I continued to sit around campfires at Camp Horne with him the three years I was in law school when I got the chance.  What a dedicated man he was.
