
Nina May Mayton, age 85, of Tuscaloosa, died December 13, 2015, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Lake officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Memory Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert W. May, Sr. and Mary Lou Johnson May; husband, Rev. Robert D. Mayton, Jr.; sisters, Betty Lou May and Clarice May Hayes; and brothers, Albert W. May, Jr. and Ben F. May.Survivors include her daughter, Nina Mayton Hollis of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; son, Robert D. "Dave" Mayton, III (Becky) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sisters, Joanne May Mathis of Birmingham, Ala. and Susan Johnson Swanson (Fred) of N. Augusta, S.C.; sister-in-law, Julia Nell Dillard May of Lufkin, Texas; and grandchildren, Ashley Mayton Sanders of Huntsville, Ala. and Alex Mayton of St. Mary's, Ga. Nina May Mayton was born August 24, 1930 in Tuscaloosa. She was raised in Northport and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1948. Nina was "called" to be a teacher. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Arts degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Alabama. She taught vocational home economics and choral music in the public schools of Alabama from 1953 to 1986. Nina retired from Hillcrest High School in 1986. Nina will best be remembered for her strong work ethic, never quit attitude, sweet smile, beautiful singing voice, great cooking and love of God, country and family.Pallbearers will be Brian May, Charles May, Tony May, Doug Mathis and Jason Russell.Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Kevin Katona, Dr. Sakina Kamal, Dr. Phil Hemstreet, Jeremy Kelley, CRNP, Dr. Aslam, Dr. Tom Davis, DCH MICU nurses, DCH Home Health Care – Tiffany and Carla, First Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Lydia Sunday School class, Frances Crow, Louise McCracken, Alice Patrick, Sandra Anderson and all former students and colleagues.
