NORTHPORT – Patti Snider Slaton, age 66, passed away November 12, 2021 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Lowery and Bro. Jeff Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to services at the church.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eugene Snider; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Snider and Rev. and Mrs. L.A. Taylor.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Richard Slaton of Northport, Ala.; daughter, Merideth Slaton Lett (Ron) of Northport, Ala.; son, John Casey Slaton (Jill) of Northport, Ala.; sister, Marquita Morgan (Brett) of Greensboro, Ga.; and grandchildren, Anne Elizabeth Thaxton, Martha Thaxton, Jessie Slaton, Jack Slaton, Katie Lett, and Meri Davis Lett.
Patti was born in Albertville, Ala. and was a 1973 graduate of Boaz High School. She married Richard in 1974, and then went on to pursue her education at the University of Alabama where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. She then earned her Master’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Alabama. Patti was a kindergarten teacher at Verner Elementary School and Rock Quarry Elementary, and she also taught preservice teachers at the University of Alabama. Patti was a devoted wife, mother and Nana. She loved teaching children and fostering a love of reading. She volunteered at Hospice of West Alabama, Manderson Cancer Center, Calvary Baptist Church, and Caring Days, and was a devoted prayer partner to many. She put the sparkle in everything. She enjoyed cooking and loved celebrating holidays; she made every event special. She especially loved taking her grandchildren to the movies, Starbucks and on road trips.
Pallbearers will be John Morgan Peters, Andy Peters, Brayden Crowell, John Robert Sanders, Barry Ellis, and Callan Burns.
Honorary pallbearers are Seth Shaul, faculty members of Rock Quarry Elementary School, the staff at Manderson Cancer Center, the staff at Hospice of West Alabama, and the Joe Wallace Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Patti’s memory to Caring Days of Tuscaloosa or Hospice of West Alabama.
