Graveside Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 24, 2022 at 2:00 PM from Memory Hill Gardens, Garden of Prayer.
Mr Goodman was born October 27, 1942 to the late William Earl Goodman and Jessie Ardee Goodman. He was raised on Watermelon Road in Northport, where he developed a strong work ethic from an early age. Before and after school there were chores, responsibilities of gardening, animal care and home repairs. At the age of 13 he was working construction for his Daddy, which gave him a solid foundation in carpentry. By age 18, he was building houses on his own. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School. After high school he joined the United States Army where he worked as a carpenter, putting his carpentry skills to use. After his separation from the Army, Mr Goodman was considered a Master Craftsman of many trades, including designing and fabricating laminating machines for the mobile home industry. He also worked at Gulf States Paper Co. in the Maintenance Department, all while simultaneously building houses. He was a faithful member of Flatwoods Baptist Church, while in Tuscaloosa. He later worked as a Maintenance Supervisor, travelling across the United States working for DeCor. Along with his wife Sharon, he relocated his family to Jackson, AL in 1989. He worked with Boise Cascade, initially in Preventative Maintenance, later transferring as a Vibration Analyst. After 20 years, he was able to retire in 2008. During what idle time he could find, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, although he truly never stopped working. David and Sharon were married 43 years, together they enjoyed fun and travels with their 2 children. Later, 7 grandchildren came along and he became affectionately known as "Bobo!" He instilled his strong work ethic into family and friends, always leading others by example. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan ("Roll Tide!"). Mr Goodman attended First Baptist Church, Jackson, AL, and later Stave Creek Baptist Church, Jackson, AL. In service of his church, he could often be found busy on various building projects the church had to offer. After Sharon's passing in 2013, David married Ginny Smith Goodman. Together David and Ginny have enjoyed a love for travel, travelling to many fun and exciting destinations during their golden years. Together, they recently celebrated 8 years of marriage.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Boozer Goodman, brother Harold, and sisters: Mary Earl, Joyce Nadine, Minnie Ora and Nina Rosetta.
He is survived by his wife Ginny Smith Goodman of Jackson, AL; daughter Heather Goodman Wewers (Donavon) of Dothan, AL; son Robert David Goodman, Jr. (Tracy) of Grove Hill, AL; grandchildren: Brylon Goodman (Courtney), Harli Kurtz (Scott), Jackson Wewers, Julian Wewers, Larcie Goodman, Jordan Wewers, Devon Wewers and four great-grandchildren.
