

The graveside service will be Friday, March 20, at 11:00 and the family will receive friends at 10:00 in the chapel.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlene Allen Shirley. He is also survived by his son Allen and his daughter Angel Schramm, and his brother Tim Shirley (Marie).
His most special name was “Papa”, and he was very proud of his grandchildren, Kellen Johnson (Cody), Blake and KatiLou Shirley, and Mary Hope Schramm, and great grandchildren James and Ella Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lummie and Dolores Shirley and brothers Hobson and Jerry Shirley and his granddaughter Elyse St. John Shirley.
He was a 1954 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High. Soon after he joined the United States Army and served from 1954-1957. He then went to work for the airlines for 33 years. In 1977 he surrendered to the call of ministry after serving with the Gideons. He served local churches for 35 years.
He loved his wife being close and their times of travel and camping. His grandchildren made him smile. He enjoyed watching the birds, crossword puzzles, coloring and he was an avid reader. He stood on the Word of God and his faith was solid. The family pets loved him and he loved them too. He loved his country and prayed for it daily.
Pallbearers are Joe Hillebrandt, Bud Sullivan, Danny McKinley, Patrick Allen, Gary Black, and Brad Shirley.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Willard and Betty Christian, Ted House, Johnny Creel, members of the churches he has served, members of Bible Baptist Church, friends of Mitchell Community, friends of former Cottondale Nazarene (2013-2023), Dr. William Hill, Dr. Scott Fulgham, and the precious nurses from Hospice (Ashley Martin, Robyn Gloston, and Brett Maddox).
