

Robert Glenn Smith, age 91, of Athens, Ala., died August 28, 2017, at Limestone Manor. Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Don Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by wife, Norida Smith; many brothers and sisters. Robert was fourteenth of fourteen children.
Survivors include daughters, Cheryl Smith Wagner, Columbus, Ga. and Diane Smith Halcomb (Gary), Athens; son, James Smith, Theodore; sisters, Alice Smith Nelson and Wilma Smith Payne, all of Palmyra, Mo.; grandchildren, Darlene Halcomb Lee, Athens, Paul Halcomb, Dunlap, Ill., William Smith, Fairbanks, Alaska; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson.
A wonderful dad and granddad, Robert Smith, was a Marine in WWII, earning the Purple Heart and Silver Star. Afterwards, he became a pharmacist, retiring as Assistant Director of Pharmacy at Bryce Hospital. But he felt his greatest work was as a servant and preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ whom he loved with all his heart.
