Robert Wesley Walters

Robert served in the United States Coast Guard from 1980 to 1984. After completing his service, he returned to his hometown, where he became a well-known and respected residential builder and contractor in the Tuscaloosa and Northport area. His career included developing and overseeing new construction, as well as helping families rebuild following disasters in the Tuscaloosa Community.

Robert learned the building trade from his father, gaining not only valuable skills but also an appreciation for hard work, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to work alongside his father and, in time, pass those same skills and knowledge to his son. Through his son Robert's dedication to his craft and the family legacy that he helped build will continue for generations to come.

Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time doing the things that brought him happiness. He was a member of Tall Pines, where he loved playing golf with his son and close friends. He was always working to improve his game and enjoyed the friendly competition and fellowship that came with being on the course.

When Robert wasn't golfing, you could find him working in his yard, tending to his daylilies and irises, camping, or heading to the beach. He especially enjoyed trips to Pensacola, hoping to catch a glimpse of Blue Angels, or relaxing along the beach at Fort Morgan. These simple moments spent outdoors and with the people and places he loved were some of his favorite ways to spend his time.

Robert also has a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs. He has a soft spot for pups and was known for rescuing one or two along the way. His compassion for animals was just another reflection of the kind and caring person he was.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Walters and Vista Smith Walters; sister, Jane Walters-Doss.

He is survived by his son, Robert "Jason" Walters (Jennifer Maricle); brother-in-law, Ronny Doss; nieces, Holley Bell, Heather Massey, and Hayley Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Tuscaloosa Animal Shelter in Robert's memory. A donation to help an animal in need would be a fitting tribute to someone who always had room in his heart for one more pup.
