

TUSCALOOSA Roberta S. McKay, age 90, of Tuscaloosa, died Aug. 23, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Meginniss officiating. Private family burial will be held in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will follow services Monday in Randall Hall at Christ Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. Smith; husband, Dr. Gordan B. McKay; and aunt, Grace Brown.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol A. McKay, Sally M. Hedman, C.J. McKay, and Ruth Olson; sons, Robert L. Hopper III, Bruce M. Hopper, Kurt W. Hopper, Galen S. McKay, and Don McKay; sister, Beverly J. Whitehead; and grandchildren, Scott Hopper, Anna Hopper, Kelsey Hopper, Matthew Hedman, Kevin Hedman, Matthew Hopper, Jennifer Channell, Busy Hopper, Jasmyne McKay, Jackson Hopper, Connor McKay, Riley McKay, and Ashton McKay.
Roberta McKay was born in White Plains, New York (Westchester County) to Mayor Robert and Helena Smith. She attended White Plains High School, Fairfax (Va.) Preparatory School, and Syracuse University majoring in early childhood development. She lived all her life in college towns such as Cambridge, Mass., Lexington, Ky., East Lansing, Mich., and Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Roberta was a very active club woman. She was a member of Avant Garde, Encore, Druid City Gourmet Club, University Women's Club, Modern Culture Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayflower Society, the Red Hat Society, and Chi Omega Sorority. Her passion was playing bridge and dancing with her husband.
Honorary pallbearers are Drayton Wear, Gene Poole, Jim Lamoreaux, Tom Ashby, Dennis Stanard, and Roger Myers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
