Born to Boyce and Verdie Johnston of Crossville, Alabama, he was a 1970 graduate of Crossville High School. He went on to receive degrees from the University of Alabama in Music and in Rehabilitation Counseling.
Ronny was a proud member of the Million Dollar Band, and served on the MDB Alumni board.
After years of rehab counseling, he became the Director of Easter Seals of Tuscaloosa, and spearheaded the building of a beautiful new facility before his retirement. Remaining involved in helping others with different abilities, he served on the Board of the Birmingham area Easter Seals, as well as a member of the Alabama Rehabilitation Association.
After retirement, he began traveling abroad, sharing experiences and photos from his trips to Kenya, Thailand, Ecuador, Cambodia, Australia, VietNam, Germany, Amsterdam, Iceland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. He also had a trip planned to Scotland in April.
Friends always looked forward to his annual proclamations that football fans were to recite the week before Alabama played the much hated Tennessee Vols.
He enjoyed many concerts and sporting events, compliments of his “ticket fairy”. He even became a ticket fairy to others.
Ronny was known by close friends as an excellent chef, sharing meals and fine wine. When he wasn’t hosting events, he would post pictures of his dining experiences, describing the meal so well that readers could almost taste it.
He loved holidays and always wore the proper attire to the fullest degree.
He was a faithful friend to many people all over the world, as well as mentor, and confidant.
He is survived by his sister, Becky (Larry) Parker; nieces, Erin (Sho) Woods, Emily Parker, Amanda (Shane) Miller; great nieces, Gracey Parker, Sophie Mei Woods, Sarah Morantes; great nephew, Archer Woods.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Easter Seals of West Alabama.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
