Roy Henton Giles

Roy was born on February 9, 1945, in Robertsdale, Alabama, to the late Ray and Voncille Giles.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kathy Roosendaal Giles, who will forever mourn and cherish his memory. He also leaves behind six brothers: Ray Edward Giles; Raymond Giles (Lyndell); Ronnie Giles (Debbie); Roger Giles (Teresa); Rufus Giles; and Ralph Giles; his sister-in-law, Sandra Gober; his brother-in-law, Dale Roosendaal (Connie); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many devoted friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Voncille Giles; his mother- and father-in-law, Dale and Joan Roosendaal; his sisters, Louise Perkins and Fay Powell; his brothers-in-law, Mac Gober, Hollis Powell, and Jerry Perkins; and his sisters-in-law, Cherry Giles and Marie Giles.

Roy proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He was a dedicated member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 301, American Legion Post 123, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1.

Roy and Kathy faithfully attended Tuscaloosa First Assembly for 55 years. In 1967, he helped put the roof on the church, a testament to his servant’s heart and commitment to his church family.

As a young man, Roy worked alongside his brothers at his father’s sawmill in Robertsdale. He enjoyed motorcycling, playing music, boating on Lake Tuscaloosa, and cheering on Alabama football. “Roll Tide!” was never far from his heart.

Roy was a man of many talents who never met a stranger. He generously shared his faith, freely gave to those in need, and left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Wherever he went, someone knew him, and his warm smile and kind words were a source of encouragement to many. His legacy of faith, kindness, and generosity will live on in the lives he touched.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Giles, Ronnie Giles, Roger Giles, Ralph Giles, Dale Roosendaal, and Jonathan Giles.
