Services will be held Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at 11 a.m., at Taylorville Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Pate officiating, and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, A Dignity Memorial Provider directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park immediately following the service.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Roy Terry, mother, Flossie Hughes Terry, sisters, Alice Kizziah, Earline Kizziah and his twin, Aligene Madison.
Survivors include his wife Betty Ryan Terry, son Steve Terry (Nancy), daughter, Yvonne Terry Betowt, sister, Betty Joyce Tucker (Leon), sister-in laws, Lois Lawrence and Gay Colvin, brother-in law, David Ryan, grandchildren, Courtney Jeffreys (Cole), Hannah Costanzo (Ryan) Lesley Davis (Cory) and great grandchildren, Chandler and Peyton Davis, Sutton and Smith Costanzo, and Savannah Jeffreys.
Roy Eugene (Gene) Terry was born on June 5, 1929, to Roy and Flossie Terry in Hale County. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1947. After graduating he joined the Navy and was assigned to a Marine division as a corpsman. After being honorably discharged in 1952, he married Betty Ryan of Holt on January 14, 1953. They had a daughter, Yvonne in 1954, and a son, Steve in 1955. Gene worked at various food distribution companies in West Alabama for several decades before becoming the first retiree from JVC in 1994. He was a faithful member of Holt Baptist Church for six decades before he and Betty lost their home during the 2011 tornado. They moved to Taylorville and joined Taylorville Baptist Church where Gene sang in the choir.
Pallbearers are Al Kizziah, Kenny Kizziah, Phillip Madison, Barry Lawrence, Mark Lawrence, Tommy Colvin, Scott Ryan, and Dave Ryan.
Honorary pallbearers are Jim Ledbetter, Bill Brewer, Buddy Brown, Jimmy Skelton, Taylorville Baptist Adult Choir, Sunday School Class-Men of Faith, Barbara Alawine, and Paul Gartman.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Taylorville Baptist Church or Gideons International.
