
Funeral services for Russell Bryant (Freddy) Reed, age 57, of Northport are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Memory Chapel on Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa with Rev. Vial Fontenot officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Russell died suddenly June 11 when stricken with high altitude illness, complicated by asthma and allergies, while on a summer work assignment in the Sierra Mountains of California.
He is survived by his daughter Madison B. Reed of Nashville, TN; parents Delbert and Peggie Reed of Northport; brother Drew Reed (Nikki) of The Woodlands, TX, and sisters Karen R. Wallace (Mark) of Tuscaloosa and Sharon Westergreen of Newberry, FL. He was preceded in death by grandparents L. T. and Zula Reed of Northport and J. P. and Mildred Orman of Tuscaloosa.
Russell, known by all as Freddy, was a native of Northport and a 1986 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School. He was employed with Upper Crust Food Service as a chef at the University of Alabama and was on a summer assignment at a Boy Scout Camp in California. He had previously served as manager of Bistro 301, associate manager of The Cypress Inn and kitchen manager of the Tin Top restaurants in Tuscaloosa.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are requested.
