Sandra Valencia Tucker (Sandy) was born on February 21st, 1947 and passed away on September 22, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama of complications related to cancer. She was married to the late James Thad Tucker. She was predeceased by her parents Bernard Valencia and Nita McAndrew Valencia; and her sister Bernita Valencia.
She is survived by her children, George Bernard Tucker (Anita) and Bridget Tucker Livaudais (Trudeau), and her six grandchildren: Nolan T. Tucker, Annalise N. Tucker, Emmaline G. Tucker, Trudeau B. Livaudais, Sophie R. Livaudais, and Mia M. Livaudais, and her brother Bernard Valencia (Anne).
Sandy and her late husband James were proprietors of the Marion Meat Market in Marion, Alabama for decades. Patrons of the store knew Sandy for her work ethic and her willingness to help local families when they were in need. A devoted and supportive mother and grandmother, Sandy loved spending time with her own children and especially her six grandchildren, who knew her as “Mimi.” She delighted in traveling and visiting the beach with her family and friends and going on vacations to new locations. She enjoyed reading, music and gardening and often enlisted her grandchildren’s help with backyard projects. Generous to all, Sandy had a soft heart for all of God’s creatures and her yard was a sanctuary for neighborhood animals who needed food or shelter. She held a steadfast faith throughout her illness and was a lifelong member of Centreville Baptist Church, drawing strength from her bible studies and Sunday school classes with friends. Once diagnosed, Sandy inspired everyone around her with her courage, resilience, and unwillingness to let her disease keep her from doing things she enjoyed. She faced rehabilitation and treatment sessions with grace and never wavered. She passed away surrounded by her children and grandchildren, having lived a fulfilling life where she spread joy to everyone around her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice of West Alabama. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at a later date.
