Sara Ann Wright Ashcraft, age 82, of Northport, Ala., passed away October 19, 2018 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 4 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2018, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Chris Ashcraft officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. Monday at Heritage Chapel.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Remus Ashcraft; father, Homer Wright; mother, Ethel May Wright; and brother, William "Billy" Wright. Survivors include her daughter, Gena Ashcraft Frith (Chuck) of Tuscaloosa; sons, James Amory Ashcraft (Denise) of Tuscaloosa and Terry Price Ashcraft of Florida; grandchildren, Chad Frith (Ashley), Hunter Frith (Hailey), Ashlynn Frith (Matt Ford), Amy Lockhart (Chris), Chris Ashcraft (Lisa), Jessica Ashcraft, Adam Ashcraft (Sarah), Brooklynn Sievering (Zack) and eight great-grandchildren.

Sara Ashcraft lived a life of service for 82 years. She lived in Tuscaloosa County her entire life. She retired after working over 20 years as a secretary for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department. When she wasn't working, Sara enjoyed volunteering with the Tuscaloosa County Kennel Club. Helping to find homes for stray dogs brought her great joy. She spent several years traveling across the country showing and judging dog shows. So invested in this charity, she worked tirelessly transporting rescue dogs from shelters to foster care. She even opened her home to numerous strays. She and her husband, Remus, raised three children together, and supported their grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their activities. Sara Ashcraft will be remembered as a caregiver to both dogs and people. She will be greatly missed.

Honorary pallbearers are the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department and Tuscaloosa County Kennel Club.
