Graveside services were held Friday May 7, 2021 at 10:15 am with military honors at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL with Rev. Lee Armstrong officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, A Dignity Memorial Provider directing.
Sherman was born on February 10, 1951. His early life was spent in Birmingham, Alabama. From 1970 – 1974 he served in the United States Air Force. For the past 30 years, Sherman was a resident of the James Clyde Pate Specialty Home at 9712 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, AL. Residents and caregivers, past and present, became his family, and he became theirs. During the past few years, he was in declining health, and received compassionate care from both the V.A. medical personnel and caregivers. We thank all who assisted in his care throughout the years.
Sherman was a uniquely special person to those who were privileged to know him. He touched our lives with his presence among us. We shall miss him. The anonymously written poem “Love Lives On” conveys our sentiments regarding the loss of our dear friend.
“ Those we love remain with us
for love itself lives on,
and cherished memories never fade
because a loved one’s gone.
Those we loved can never be
more than a thought apart,
for as long as there is memory
they’ll live on in the heart.”
