She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hayes, Jr.; parents, Charles J. and Henrietta S. Townsend; step daughter, Debra F. Willmon; and other beloved family members.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda A. Stapleton of Pensacola, Fla.; sons, Charles M. Willmon (Phyllis) of Double Springs and John T. Willmon of Tuscaloosa; sister, Sue T. McNeely (Bobby) of Mobile; niece, Sudie T. Speed (Stewart) of Selma and nephew, Jan Garrison “Bud” Thompson (Laurie); two great-nieces; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several loved cousins.
Shirley attended Tuscaloosa High School, Class of 1953. She was retired from the City of Garland (Texas) in 1993 where she was Director of “Good Sam Program” and Supervisor for Section 8 urban development. She worked for State Farm (Philip Bradberry) in Tuscaloosa.
She loved to travel and took many cruises to Europe, Belize and Alaska. She loved being in Hot Springs, Ark. at her condo.
She was a member of First Baptist Church “Joy” class.
Her family would like to thank Emily Sonneland and Bree Hall of Memory Chapel Funeral Home for their kindness during this time of sorrow.
A private “Celebration of Life” will be held.
