He is survived by two daughters and one son, Deborah (David) Grammas Dye, Stephen (Pam) T. Grammas, and Margaret (Tom) E. Postak; his sister Mary (Mike) Balsamides of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer M. Waitzman, Thomas G. Dye, Katherine C. Dye, Chelsea L. Grammas, Zachary (Kayla) S. Grammas, Thomas M. Postak, and Mitchell J. Postak; and many loving nieces and nephews in Atlanta, Ga.
He was a Yeoman in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific and was on the second ship to land in Japan after the surrender. He then attended the University of Alabama, joined Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and earned an accounting degree. He was a cost accountant with B. F. Goodrich in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Akron, Ohio for over 30 years. He and his wife, Doris, retired and moved back to Tuscaloosa. He was a wonderful father, allowing all the neighborhood kids to play games on his grass in Northwood Lake. He would always join in and be the referee. Golf was his passion and he played until he was 90. Alabama Football was his fall entertainment and he rarely missed a home game. He enjoyed music and dancing. After retirement he liked nothing more than his children and grandchildren getting together for poker, boating and looking out at the lake and birds from the back porch. He always looked forward to Friday’s shrimp bisque at Indian Hills with his golf buddies! Family and friends were everything to him and he will be greatly missed.
A service will be held to celebrate his life at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Family visitation will occur at 10 a.m. in the church parlor followed by the service in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. Dr. Mark Lacey will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of West Alabama, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice since dad gave to almost every charity that came in the mail.
