NORTHPORT – Toney J. “T.J.” Bonner, age 91, passed away June 19, 2022 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2022 at Freewill Baptist Church of Berry with Rev. Kenneth Bozeman officiating and Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Mr. Bonner was preceded in death by his wife, Sno Bonner; sons, Leonard James Bonner and Jerry Wayne Bonner; grandparents, William and Timey Earnest; parents, Joe and Verda Earnest Bonner; sister, Vernell Bonner; and brothers, Raymond Bonner and Richard Bonner.
He is survived by his sisters, Inez Bonner Watkins, Adelle Belcher (Don), and Mary Ellen Bonner Pinion (Ralph).
Toney J. “T.J.” Bonner was born on July 27, 1930 in Berry, Alabama (Pea Ridge Community). His parents were Joe and Verda Bonner from Berry, Ala. T.J. and his wife lived in Ohio several years after his military service. He was inducted into the army in 1955 and he served in Alaska most of his time. He and Sno adopted a baby boy, Leonard James, who died at the age of 16. They moved to Cottondale, Ala. and lived there several years. He owned an eighteen wheeler and drove it for several years. He also drove a transport van for the military for several years after retirement. Later he moved to Northport. He enjoyed going to church at the Berry Freewill Baptist Church on Sundays, where he was a member and had been baptized.
Pallbearers will be Russell Churchwell, Kent Bonner, Gerad Pinion, Joe Watkins, Luke Belcher, and Jamie Belcher.
Honorary pallbearers are Heath Bonner, Don Belcher, Ralph Pinion, Cody Hocutt, Bill “Scooby” Shobert, and Rayborn Kennedy.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Berry Freewill Baptist Church or to the Flatwoods Cemetery Fund.
