Verner B. Steele, Sr., age 89, of Cottondale, died January 21, 2017. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Snider and Rev. Todd Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be today, January 24, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Nell Steele; second wife, Betty Steele; daughter, Cynthia Annette Burroughs; parents, Victor and Gertrude Steele; brothers, James, Fred and Virgil Steele; and sister, Fannie Mae Jones.Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Cooper, Becky Dockery and Darline Phillips (Steve); son, Bedford Steele (Norma); grandchildren, Brian Smith, Gary and Travis Burroughs, Shannon Dockery, Tiffany Bryant, Shawn Phillips, Ashley Creel, Kesley Burnette and Amanda and Troy Steele; ten great-grandchildren; special niece, Mildred Burroughs; and "his angel daughter", Ashley Balentine. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
