Born in Northport, AL in 1924, Mrs. Gwin graduated from the University of Alabama in 1947 and went on to serve distinguished careers in both the state and federal government for more than 38 years. She held positions of President and Representative in the American Federation of Government Employees and was involved with several other professional and civic organizations.
Mrs. Gwin enjoyed traveling, history and politics and expressed her gratitude for a career which allowed her to participate in all of these things. She felt community development opportunities were her good fortune.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Trim and Lillie Montgomery Watkins; her beloved husbands: Joe Bearden, Thorpe Hanners and Judge Robert Gwin; and sister-in-law, Betty Watkins.
Mrs. Gwin is survived by her brother, Edwin Watkins; a sister, Patricia Beaty (W.D.); nieces, Lisa Fain Josey, Carol Barfoot (Norman) and Andra Jones; nephew, Gary Watkins (Michelle); stepdaughter, Gay Gwin Fowler; and stepson, Joe Hanners.
Funeral services and entombment will be held at Memory Hill Gardens Mausoleum in Tuscaloosa at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Arrangements handled by Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider.
