Wade Randall "Randy" Hicks

Wade Randall “Randy” Hicks passed away on September 22, 2021 at DCH, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 4pm at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd. Tuscaloosa, Al. The family respectfully requires that only fully vaccinated attend the service, and masks will be required.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society of West Alabama or a charity of your choice. Randy had a special place in his heart for the Dachshund breed.

Randy was preceded in death by parents Lt. Colonel George Luther Hicks and Dana Ecker Hicks. And also his best friend and beloved step sister, Carol McLain, who, without a doubt, grabbed his hand and guided him through his earthly transition to his eternal heavenly home.

He graduated from Rutherford High school, Panama City, FL in 1966 and attended Gulf Coast Community College prior to joining the Navy. He had a successful career in retail sales and retired from Goodyear Wholesale Tire in Birmingham, AL. He then began a most loved retirement job at Home Depot in the garden department until illness prevented him from continued work. Nonetheless, he continued to garden and do home projects until just a few days before his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene “Darla”, his daughter Kathy James (Patrick) granddaughters Georgia Barber and Bella James ; step children Amity Sullivan and Sara Neale (Asheesh Laroia); step grandchildren Lauren Sullivan, Logan Sullivan and our beloved and precious Eddie Sullivan “little e.”

Randy and Darla married November 12, 2005 at a tailgate on the quad of The University of Alabama. They enjoyed tailgating and going out with friends, and spending as much time as they could at the beach. Randy loved gardening and was so happy when he grew a good crop of peppers and tomatoes.

You are loved Randy, Rest in Peace. I’m sure you are in charge of the Heavenly Gardens now.
