
W.E. “Speed” Reed, age 86, of Tuscaloosa, died July 21, 2011, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2011, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations with Dr. Larry Corder officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremtations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evan and Gertie Reed; and brother, Donald Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Betty McGuire Reed; daughter, Kim Watson (Tom); sons, Randy Reed (Carol) and Rick Reed (Barbara); brother, Herbert Reed; grandchildren, Reed Thomas Watson and Anna Frances Watson; step-granddaughter, Stacy Apperson; and step-great-granddaughters, Marlie and Morgan Apperson.
He graduated from Cordova High School and attended the University of Alabama. He was a World War II veteran. He was a care salesman currently at Barkley, GMC, Buick & Cadillac Jaycees, and President of Pontiac Guild.
Pallbearers will be Dane Griffen, Daryl Hale, Michael Giles, Bill Campbell, Bill Adams, Reed Watson, and Pat Geddes.
Honorary pallbearers are Lewis Manderson, Aubrey Minga, Ray Minga, Dr. Shelby Sanford, Verna Mae and Gene Patterson, David Grant, Bob and Lil Tatum and Stevie, Sara York, all employees of Barkley, GMC, Buick & Cadillac, and friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Alberta Baptist Church Building Fund.
