Wilene Prewitt was born in Tuscaloosa, May 21, 1938 to the late Wilton and Pauline Patterson. She had one sister Peggy Johnson (Wayne) of Jackson, TN. Wilene married Donald Prewitt in November of 1956. They were married for 62 years. Wilene and Donald had two sons, Ronald Prewitt of Tuscaloosa, AL and Randall Prewitt of Northport, AL; and one grandson Matthew Taft of Bessemer, AL. Her parents and husband, precede her in death. Her sister, sons and grandsons all survive.
Wilene was a very active member of Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church, she loved her church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She loved to cook delicious food, for as long as she had the ability, she loved to share her recipes and absolutely adored her cookbook collection. She was a Tupperware consultant for a little while, but primarily spent her working days as a Public Accountant. She prepared many personal tax returns for many people, kept books and prepared payroll for many local businesses. She also worked for several years as the financial officer at WNPT Radio. She was a wonderful wife and mother as Don and her boys were always at the center of her attention.
On September 9, 2021, Wilene succumbed to the effects of dementia, after suffering from this disease for many years. The family would like to thank Annie Hosea and her staff for the care they gave Wilene for many years. They are also very thankful for the help provided by the FOCUS of Tuscaloosa, Alabama Hospice Care of Tuscaloosa and many friends (they certainly know that “Mama” appreciated you all too). Wilene will be dearly missed, but the peace she has now, makes the pain of losing her much easier to bear.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 5-7pm at Memory Chapel of Tuscaloosa. A Graveside Funeral Service will be Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11:00am from Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Dorothy Scott officiating. Funeral services are under the direction of Memory Chapel, a Dignity Memorial provider.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Chris Cargile, Todd Strickland, Benson Bolling, Chad Spencer, Justin Jarrell and Wilburn Martin. The family wishes to recognize Member of Jennings Chapel UMB (past and present), Annie Hosea, Barbara Key and Stephanie Jones-Thomas, as well as FOCUS Staff and Alabama Hospice Care of Tuscaloosa as Honorary Pallbearers.
