He is survived by daughter Debra Headrick (Greg), sisters Carolyn Talley (E) and Linda Tucker, brother Jim Williamson (Pat), grandchildren Dennis Williamson Jr. (Angela), Hunter Johns (Olivia) Kristina Byrd (Parker) and great grandchildren Drake Williamson and Julianna Johns.
Gene was better known as "Coach". Throughout the years he was involved in coaching baseball and football. His love of sports began long before his own sons were born. From little league up, he alternated between the two. He coached his sons, his grandson and even helped with his great grandson. He was a very loving man, and generous with his time and a giving person. The friendships he made with players and their families have continued his whole life. He was a rock and mentor to so many kids. The respect he earned from this was very dear to his heart. Gene loved hunting and often told stories of trips to Mexico and eating from a chuckwagon. But his one real love was traveling across the U.S. and stopping and cooking a pot of chili on an open fire. The things he was most proud of was watching all of his "kids" grow up and follow their careers. His family is deeply grieving the loss of a man so full of life.
Special thank you to all of his friends, his many "kids, his doctors throughout the years, the entire staff at Foley Memorial Hospital, the entire hospice staff for their patience and understanding while advocating for my father's wishes. And finally a special thank you to Hazel Morrison, his dear friend and companion, for her willingness to care for my dad for the last years and days of his life.
