OBITUARY

William L. Antero

August 7, 1927October 14, 2011

William L. "Billy"/"Willie" Antero, formerly of Boonton and Rockaway, N.J., died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, following a courageous battle to overcome a stroke. He was 84.

He was a loyal, loving husband, grandfather, father, brother, and uncle. Bill was the person who brightened your day whenever you saw him. He was funny beyond words and passionate about all things dear to him, especially his cars. Billy was a "Boonton guy." He worked at Van Raalte, Inc. for many years as a truck driver and then took a position with the Town of Boonton Parking Authority in 1973. As a part of his job he was also a special police officer with the Boonton Police Department. He loved being associated with the Boonton Police, and he enjoyed being downtown every day with the storeowners and his buddies at the barber shop.

Billy will be best remembered by his family as the helper with the innovative ideas and the guy who loved a clean, sparkling car. Whether it was volunteering at a PBA golf outing, a home improvement project with his son or brother-in-law, or helping out in his daughter's office, you could count on him to be there till the end and work as hard, if not harder, than anyone else.

Affectionately known by his children as "the Pop, Popper, or Poppy", he will always be remembered by them as caring, loving, and hysterically funny.

Survivors include his loving and always caring wife of 57 years, Patricia Anne (Coughlin); his son, Rick and his wife, Karen of Greendell, N.J.; his daughter, Patricia Mary and her husband, Bruce Freeman of Tuscaloosa; his sister, Elizabeth "Betty" and her husband, Tony of Boonton, N.J.; and his grandchildren, Lisa and Kevin Antero and Gina, Michael, and William Ferro.

Arrangements for Bill are being handled by Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation and mass Oct. 18, 2011, beginning at 1 p.m. with Mass beginning at 2 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Bill's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I have such fond memories of my uncle Bill from my childhood. From the way he would sit Indian style on the floor while i played sale of the century or how he would play the “what’s the matter you” song because I liked or tell me he would give me the boot express back to Brooklyn. Uncle Bill was very funny and was always extremely good to me. You will be missed and in my heart always. Rest in peace.

I work for Rick and Karen Antero and I had the pleasure of meeting Rick' s dad on his last trip to New Jersey. What a nice man he was , I have heard many stories from both Rick and Karen; I know he was a great person and father. He will be missed dearly. I am sorry to his whole family for your loss.

The first time I met Mr. Antero was at Dr. Antero office when she was working on my feet. He came to my door to speak to the doctor and we began a great conversation. Saw him several times after that at her office and even at Bruno's. Was a great gentleman and a friend. Will be truly missed by everyone that met him. So very sorry for his passing.
