William Lee Archie, age 80, passed peacefully at home on August 29, 2026. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Ben Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mr. Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland Lee and Dosiha Archie; daughter, L'Rae Ingram; sister, Virginia Overstreet; and niece, Carmella Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Rosetta "Rose" Archie; daughters, Angela Skelton (Bart) and Connie Holt (Johnny); sons, Johnathon Archie and Charles "Bubba" Moore; several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his Parker Towing Company and Golden Moon Casino family.
Bill was a man who truly loved life, his family, his work, and the people around him. He had a kind and generous heart and was always willing to help someone in need. To know Bill was to know a man who cared deeply for others and believed in enjoying every moment life had to offer.
One of the greatest joys of Bill’s life was his wife, Rose. For 40 years, they shared a life filled with love, companionship, memories, and countless moments together. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, and the life he and Rose built together was something he treasured deeply.
The river was also a very special part of Bill’s life. He spent an incredible 60 years working on the river, with the majority of those years as a towboat captain for Parker Towing Company. Being on the river was more than a job to Bill—it was a way of life. He loved being a captain, loved the river, and took great pride in the work he did. After so many years, the river became a part of who he was and a place where he felt at home.
Bill also had a heart for giving back to others. He was a proud member of the Elks Lodge for 52 years and the Moose Lodge for 40 years. Throughout those many years, he participated in numerous charitable efforts and gave his time to helping others. His generosity was not something he simply talked about; it was something he showed through the way he lived his life.
And when Bill wasn’t on the river, there was a good chance you could find him at the casino, enjoying himself and doing what Bill did best—living life. He knew how to work hard, give generously, love deeply, and enjoy the time he was given.
Bill leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind the example of a life well lived—a life filled with love, hard work, generosity, laughter, and kindness. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
