William Donald Bennett

Don was born the son of William Wilson Bennett and Lois Irene Turner. He attended Chamblee High School in Atlanta Georgia and was the Atlanta Journal Outstanding Senior of the Year in 1958. Following his graduation, he attended Young Harris College and Mercer University, completing his Bachelors in Philosophy and Sociology from Mercer University in 1962. He received his Bachelor’s in Divinity in 1967 and his Masters in Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville Kentucky in 1969. He married Mary Susan Calvin in 1967 and had 2 children Susan Lynne and John Calvin.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Sue Calvin Bennett, daughter Susan Bennett Smith (Brent) and son John Calvin Bennett (Amy). He is the proud grandfather of John Calvin Bennett Jr., Laura Bennett Smith (Logan), Mary Catherine Smith (deceased) Marleigh Caroline Smith and Jackson Calvin Bennett.

Don’s career was as Baptist Campus Minister at North Georgia College, Georgia College and University of Alabama. He also served as pastor of Little Sandy Baptist, Highland Baptist in Gordo and Mount Hebron East in Wetumpka.

Don loved life and cherished time with his family. He loved teaching in all areas of his interests, including humanitarian causes, oil painting, and bird watching.
