William Earl Whitson

William Earl Whitson passed on to his eternal home on March 25, 2022, at 89 years of age. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with Senior Pastor Jon Wiggins of Skyland Baptist Church officiating, at Memory Hill Gardens under the direction of Memory Chapel, a Dignity Memorial provider, (2200 Skyland Boulevard, Tuscaloosa, AL).

Earl was born February 13, 1933, in Fort Benning, GA to the late Issac Whitson and Anna Hindman Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and Sweetheart of 63 years, Bettye Jane Daffron Whitson, and one sister, Betty Whitson Sterling. He is survived by his son, William Mark Whitson (Martha); daughter, Cheryl Ann Dickey (David); grandchildren, William Ryan Whitson (Casey), Richard Taylor Whitson, Ashley Nichole Snead; and two great grandsons, William Grant Whitson, and Connor Gibbes Whitson.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1953. Earl then moved to Tuscaloosa where he attended The University of Alabama School of Engineering and met the love of his life. He retired from Gulf States Paper Corporation after 29 years of service where he was Senior Engineer in the Paper Section.

Pallbearers are Grandsons: Ryan and Taylor Whitson; Friends: Carlos Codina, Al Lancaster, Michael Ray, and Alan Waycaster. Honorary Pallbearers are: Great Grandsons: Grant and Gibbes Whitson; Nephews: Andy Daffron, Rod Sterling, Mike Sterling, Steve Sterling and Friends: Mike Anderson, Linvell Barger, and Jack Dickey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Skyland Baptist Church, 3320 Skyland Blvd. E., Tuscaloosa, AL 35405, or Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
