Windle “Pop” Smith, 80, of Northport, passed away on November 10, 2021 at Hospice of West Alabama. A visitation is scheduled for Saturday; November 13, 2021 beginning at 2pm and immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 3pm from Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Tuscaloosa, a Dignity Memorial provider. Interment services will follow from Memory Hill Gardens, Masonic Garden.
After graduating high school Windle worked several years at Anders Hardware. His working career was primarily spent at Uniroyal Goodrich, where he was able to retire, in 2007, after 30 years of service. Though he was admirably a hard worker, his greatest joy in life was his family. He was a second father to many, as he opened his heart and home to anyone in need. Windle never met a stranger, if he didn’t know you, he soon would. A wonderful husband and daddy, he was especially proud of his given title of “Pop” a name he wore proudly! His passing has left a vast hole in the hearts of all who loved him, but we are secure in the faith that we will all be reunited again one day.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father Andrew Smith, mother Thelma Booth, brother James Smith and niece Debra Wheatley.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Carolyn Smith; daughters: Becky (Tim) Case and Renae (Jason) Rushing; sisters Deletha Lynn and Retha Channell; grandchildren: Jamie (Skot) Montgomery, Courtney (Adam) Lesley, Miranda (Seth) Green, Andrew (Lindsey) Stephens, T.J. (Kimberly) Case, Jeff (Ashlyn) Case, William Case and Peyton Rushing; great-grandchildren: Cedar, Smith, Emerson, Hadley, Liam, Reese, Sydney, Killian and Izabella; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Andrew Stephens, Adam Lesley, Jeff Case, Bruce Freeman, Danny Lynn and Gary Newman will serve as Active Pallbearers. Recognized as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Past and Present employees of Uniroyal Goodrich, neighbors of Booth Estates, his special caregiver Ms Laurethia Lewis; and a special thank you to Gary and Linda Newman for helping care for our mother, during Daddy’s illness.
