Cal was born in an old farmhouse near Oakwood, Oklahoma on December 28, 1940 to Ray Lynden Wilson and Vera Lenora Sigman. His early years were spent on this small family farm where he created many happy memories with his three brothers.
In 1954 his mother and brothers boarded the train and moved out west to Idaho, settling in Caldwell. It was hard to leave his many friends and family members in Oklahoma but he soon settled in and made many friends. This was the beginning of a very dear friendship with Roger Erickson, who had just moved to Caldwell from Colorado.
Following high school Cal entered the US Navy Reserves where he served two years active duty and four years Reserve. During his active duty he served on the USS Ticonderoga and toured Hawaii, Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong and Laos. His Naval service was completed in 1962 and he returned to Idaho.
In 1963 he began working for Grover’s Pay and Pack in Boise, Idaho. It was during this time when he met LaRae Little, who was a co-worker of his brother, Lynn. He married LaRae Little on August 1, 1964 in Boise, Idaho. Also, during this time he was introduced to the LDS Church. In 1968, just prior to the birth of their first child and a move to Twin Falls to open a new Pay & Pack store, he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Cal and LaRae were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 1, 1975.
Cal faithfully served in many positions in the church; multiple clerk positions, member of Bishoprics and for many years in the Young Men and Scouting Programs. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and often told the story of his conversion to the church and the peace that was afforded by living the Gospel.
Cal was a gentle man who was well-known for his service to others. He was the go-to person for plumbing or electrical work in the area. He loved to tell of the stories about growing up in Oklahoma and Caldwell, then later came the wild stories of motorcycle riding, hunting and adventuring in the beautiful mountains of Idaho.
Cal is survived by his wife, LaRae Little Wilson, three children; Tami (Bob) Thomas, Doug (Anna) Wilson and Mark (Erin) Wilson, three brothers; Gary (Linda) Wilson, Bud Wilson, and Lynden Wilson, as well as his seven grandchildren; BreAnna Thomas, Logan Wilson, Ashley Wilson, Nicole Thomas, Kylie Thomas, Van Wilson, and Piper Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will be forever grateful for the gentle, caring services of Visions Home Health and Hospice services over the last few months. They were our angels.
The funeral for Cal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20 at the LDS Church, 2085 South Temple Drive in Twin Falls with Bishop Kay Sorenson conducting. A viewing for family and friends will take place on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave east Twin Falls as well as from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church. Internment will follow service at Sunset Memorial park.
In lieu of flowers the family would suggest donations be made to a Parkinsons Foundation.
