Matilda "Tillie" Tillie Shane

Matilda “Tillie” Harr Shane, 101, of Twin Falls, passed away July 3, 2014. Tillie was born December 18, 1912 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Chris and Beulah Bender. She moved with her family to Filer, Idaho in 1925 and worked in the fields with her father and brother. In 1933 she married Edward Harr of Twin Falls, and three sons were born: LeRoy, Gene, and Ron.

In 1945, Tillie and Edward divorced and Tillie married Lloyd D. Shane on November 29, 1948. Lloyd raised the boys and they all followed their stepfather into the plumbing trade.

Tillie was an excellent housekeeper and loved working in her yard. She and Lloyd were always hunting, fishing, and camping with Tillie’s sisters and their husbands. She fondly recounted trips to Magic Reservoir and banging on buckets to flush pheasants during pheasant drives. Grandma’s house was always the family gathering place for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners because she was a superb cook whose turkey and dressing was unmatched.

Driving a car was something Tillie never learned, so she walked everywhere she went. She was an independent woman, and at ninety she was still walking to get her own groceries. Tillie was a woman who understood perseverance. She faced the many challenges of her life with grace, dignity and above all…strength. That is how she will be remembered by the many who loved her, as a strong woman.

She leaves behind a legacy of family that she was endlessly proud of, and her greatest satisfaction in life came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s successes.

Tillie is survived by her grandchildren; Stephen (Nancy) Harr of Twin Falls, Leslie (Pat) Stoffal of Richfield, Lisa (Steve) Saucedo of Boise, Tim (Stephanie) Harr of Twin Falls, Tracy (Debbie) Harr of Buhl, and Danielle Jeen Gardea of Las Vegas, Nevada. Great-grandchildren; Logan Harr, Cody Harr, Kendall Harr, Sarah Allen, Nichole Wilson, Jarrod Jepson, Bobbi Kline, Jesse Harney, Anthony Harney, Megan Kowitz, Jake Harr, Sierra Harr, Rachelle Baier, Christine Harr, Hailey Leaf, Donaven Kenneth, and Derik and Justin Stanger. Great-great grandchildren; Korben and Charlie Kowitz, Hannah Harr, Lincoln Baier, Brandon and Bella Mae Allen, Natalie, Brittany, and Emmalee Kline, Zoey Harr, Dylan, Kelsey, Presly Stanger, and Sway, Tripp, and Park Stanger.

Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Shane, her sons: Leroy Harr, Gene Harr and Ron Harr; sisters Elizabeth Harr, Catherine Bender, Minnie Brown, and Martha Smith; brothers Christ Bender, and Freddy Bender; and granddaughter Shauna Rea.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday July 14, 2014 at White Mortuary “Chapel by the Park” 136 3th Ave E., Twin Falls. Friends and family may visit Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 6 – 8 p.m. at White Mortuary and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
