Dick and Mom treated the kids and I a few times to the Hale Theatre. One particular time we all loaded up and went in Dick's Expedition. When the show was over, there was traffic jammed up trying to get out of the parking lot all at the same time. We had parked on the edge of the lot which had a large grass berm. Without a single word Dick just put it in drive, went calmly over the concrete tire barrier and on up and over the berm...with my Mom protesting the whole time and the kids cheering and laughing. His only reaction was, "Well, if a guy is going to have a four wheel drive, he may as well use it." We beat all the traffic out and went on our merry way. Years later my now adult kids still tell that story.
Dick was that kind of guy, always willing to step out of where he was to meet people where they were. He was special to us and we will miss him.

The last day we spent with Dick, we ate far too many onion rings and were disappointed by the overhyped birthday cake milkshake, but we wouldn't trade that trip in the Mustang to Jack in the Box for anything else!
Dick was always very kind to us. It feels like just yesterday that he and Grandma Barbara gave us a tour of Salt Lake City on one of our trips back to the USA. Dick and Geoff both enjoyed the simple things in life: a burger from Crown Burger, a lamb chop from Lambs, a brisk walk around the block, and a nice car. They even traded sweets!
Our thoughts are with all of Dick's family and friends today. We are sorry that we cannot be there to offer our condolences in person, but we hope that the addition of our memories of Dick can be of some small comfort.

My deepest sympathy at Dick's passing. It was so good to visit with Dick and Barbara in the first part of March. Best wishes to the family.
