Charley Curtis Frizzell, a beloved husband, father, Grandpa, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on July 7th, 2026. Curtis was born on March 9, 1954, in Tyler, Texas, to King David and Thelma Frizzell. He lived many places throughout his lifetime but made his home in Arp, Texas, where he was loved and respected by his family, friends, and church family.
Curtis was a child of God who loved the Lord and lived his later life with a servant’s heart. He was a faithful member of Middle Cross Baptist Church in Henderson, Texas, where Brother Jason Wood served as his pastor. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he lived it out daily through his love, kindness, and service to others.
Curtis loved the Lord deeply, and his favorite Bible verses were John 3:16 and Joshua 24:15, which guided the way he lived — choosing to serve the Lord and leading his family in faith.
He was a hardworking man who believed in helping others, putting people before himself, and doing whatever needed to be done. If someone needed a hand, Curtis was the kind of man who showed up. There was no job Curtis couldn’t do. His hands were built for hard work, and he spent a lifetime creating, fixing, and serving. He worked in concrete, the oil field, plumbing, roofing, fencing, mechanics, carpentry, painting, truck driving, hot shot driving, and even was a school bus driver. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades — a man who could look at something, figure it out, and get it done. He loved being busy and working with his hands.
Curtis enjoyed the simple things in life: fishing, hunting, motorcycles, camping, watching westerns, and spending time with the people he loved. His greatest joy was his family and his church family. He was known for his big heart, his generosity, and the love he showed through his actions.
Curtis shared his life with his loving wife, Betty Frizzell. Together they built a family that was his greatest blessing. He is survived by his children: Charles Frizzell and wife Kelli of Overton, Texas; Angela Shelton and husband Thomas of Henderson, Texas; and Ashley Darden and husband David of Arp, Texas. He also held a special place in his heart for his claimed children, Tiffany McKnight and Jason Rentz.
He was a proud Grandpa to Casen Darden, Abbigail Darden, Krista Toribio and husband Luis, Payton Clark, and Tiffani Cortez and husband Jose. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Mady Toribio.
Curtis is also survived by his sisters, Lavinia Jobe and Alice Frizzell, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends who became family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, King David and Thelma Frizzell; and his siblings, Tony Frizzell, Eddie Frizzell and wife Sue, Shirley Thomas and husband Herman, William Dee Frizzell, Steve Lee Frizzell, and Horace Jobe.
To know Curtis was to know a man who loved deeply and gave freely. He was a faithful husband, father, Grandpa, and friend who made people feel valued. Many will remember his goofy side and familiar words “That’s More Gooder”
Although his family feels the deep loss of his passing, they find comfort knowing Curtis is now in the presence of his Savior. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, kindness, hard work, service and love will never be forgotten.
