Don honorably served in the Marines as a Lance Corporal for 2 years. Once he was discharged, he started working for Texas Power and Light on June 22, 1964, as a meter reader, then promoting to pole climber, concluding his career on August 1, 2001 as a transmission superintendent. He enjoyed his time of 37 years with TXU. Don married the love of his life, Rita, on April 23, 1965 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler, Texas. If Don wasn’t enjoying the water while fishing, he would be working in his yard to keep everything perfectly trimmed. Above all, Don loved spending precious time with his grandchildren and watching them grow. Don will be greatly cherished, and missed by all.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Rita Gee; daughters Selena (Cleatus) Hopson and Christie (Ronnie) Hunter; sister Carolyn Mints; grandchildren Emilie Gee, Morgan (Cam) Bartzen; Blake Hunter, Anthony Gee and Ethan Gee; great-grandchildren Layne Gray, Lanydon Gray, and Christian Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by his loved son Tony Gee; parents Walter and Della Gee; brother-in-law Jack Mints; and sister Nadine Gee.
A graveside service will be held for Donald on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home - Cemetery and Mausoleum, 12053 State Highway 64 W, Tyler, Texas 75704, officiated by Paul Mints.
