Dorothy Loucille Spath, age 94, passed away on Sunday, November 2, in Dallas, Texas. “Dotty” was born on December 26, 1930, in Magnet, Arkansas, to Roxie Gee Golden and James Larkin Brown. She grew up on her family’s farm in Magnet Cove, Arkansas, graduating from Magnet Cove High School in 1948. She married Christopher “Chris” Spath in 1986. While Dotty and Chris lived in Tyler, she was a long-time member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church.
Throughout her life, Dotty was an accomplished entrepreneur, owning several businesses in the food and beverage industry. Dotty’s many hobbies included gardening, baking and cooking, and travelling. She especially enjoyed her time at the beach and going on cruises around the Caribbean. Dotty rarely missed watching a horse race, and, on fall Saturdays and Sundays, she would cheer for her favorite football teams, including the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Her heart and home were always open to animals, as she cared for many cats and dogs in her lifetime, including Tyler Rose, who lived with her for 25 years. Dotty’s most cherished memories were those made with her family and friends, all of whom knew, and will remember, her as outspoken and independent with a beautifully kind and compassionate soul.
Dotty is preceded in death by her husband, Chris Spath; parents, Larkin and Roxie Brown; sister, Sue Brown Biasatti; and brothers, Jerry L. Brown and Jimmy Lee Brown.
She is survived by: niece and husband, Gina and Charles Smith; nephew and wife, Mike and Sonia Biasatti; nephew and wife, Jason and Lisa Brown; nephews Joey Biasatti and Greg Biasatti; niece, Dana Biasatti; many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; her beloved little Yorkshire terrier companion, “TT”; and many dear friends.
