

She was born on September 13, 1937, to Percy and Earlene Steele in Tyler. She graduated Tyler High School and retired to Hideaway after a career with Southwestern Bell / AT&T. She is a member of Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church. Ginger loved spending time with her friends in the Red Hat Society and the Mad Hatter’s where she was instrumental in planning events. She taught Mah Jongg for over 25 years. Her love for her family shows in the eyes of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ginger is survived by her children J. Mark Ellis (Angel), Tanya Ellis Engel, Charlotte Ellis Johnston (Steve), five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Johnny Frank Steele, Husband Bryan Thompson Ellis and Husband Jack Knauss.
As tribute to her love for bright beautiful colors, Ginger has made a specific request to her friends to wear bright colors and hats for the celebration of life, which will take place on Sunday, June 4, at 2pm at Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church. Bright colors will also be encouraged for her visitation that will take place on Saturday, June 3, from 6-8pm at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of East Texas or Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church New Building Fund.
