Melba was born in Fort Jessup, Louisiana on December 31, 1921 to William Crawford and Edna Francis (Heard) Henderson. She moved to Texas as a child in a covered wagon with her parents and brothers and sisters. She lived in Tyler most of her life and graduated from Tyler High School in 1939 then attended Southwestern Bible College. Melba married Collie Carlton Wyatt on May 20, 1942 and was a stay at home mom for their children. She was a fantastic cook and baker and loved to prepare meals fit for a king. Collie built her dream home with a kitchen designed by her to accommodate her love of cooking.
Melba was the first one in her family to find salvation. She loved God and loved to write poetry about Him and her relationship with Him and even has a book of her poetry in print. While she was able, she loved to go to church and was very active teaching Sunday school and writing newsletters for her class. She is a charter member of Cross Pointe Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sons Tommy and Jimmy Wyatt. Her brothers Elmo Henderson (Odie) and B.J. Henderson (Beulah). Her sisters Thelma Miller (Dudley), Lucille Eastman (Merle), Vivian Ray (Ezra), Dorothy Myers (Hubert) and Winnie Wright (L.B.).
She is survived by her son Adolphus Wyatt (Sandra), Joe Wyatt (Lilly) and daughter Ruth Praytor (Tommy) and daughters-in-law Barbara and Willene Wyatt. She has 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Don Wright, Dale Wright, Bill Henderson, Bobby Joe Henderson, Wayne Tidwell and Jerry Herring.
The family would like to thank The Hospice of East Texas, Visiting Angels and all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and aids who took care of Melba. She loved them all and felt like they were her extended family.
