Jackie Daniel Green

Graveside services with Military Honors for Jackie Daniel Green, SFC U.S. Army (Retired) will be held in the pavilion at Liberty Cemetery in Van Zandt County, Texas on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 1:00 PM under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Tyler.

Jackie Daniel Green was born on January 6th, 1938 in Vernon, Texas to John Nelson Green and Katie May (Smith) Green. He passed from this earth on June 22, 2019. Raised in the Martin’s Mill area of Van Zandt County, Texas, he attended school in Martin’s Mill and worked on various family farms and sawmills. In 1957, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1977. After a 20 year Army career of decorated service, including tours in Vietnam, Korea, Maryland, Oklahoma, New York and West Germany during the Cold War. Always proud to be from East Texas, SFC Green retired to Tyler, where he worked for many years as a truck driver. He loved working in his garden, taking care of his yard and fish ponds and providing for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Rosa Lee Green, one sister and three brothers, step daughter Barbara Reynolds and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mr. Green is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marie Green of Tyler; daughters, Debbie Lynn Green Peterson and husband Dale, Elizabeth (Beth) Green Thomson Huse and husband Doug; grandchildren Waren Peterson, Jacqulynn Peterson Gonzales, Krystal Peterson, R. Scott Thomson and Laura Grace Thomson; stepson, Dan Dennis; seven great-grandchildren and numerous step grand and great grandchildren; and his special puppy, Baby.

We will all miss his many stories, his funny laugh, his love of good home cooking and how much he loved us.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Liberty Cemetery Association of Van Zandt County and American Red Cross - Hero Care, serving military families.
