

John Joseph Minster, 70, of Berryville, Texas, passed away on August 29, 2025, at Tyler Hospice of East Texas after a battle with cancer. He was born on July 14, 1955 to Joseph Edward Minister and J. Willemina Boland Minster in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
John was a beloved brother, uncle and friend known for his kindness, free giving, sense of humor and quick to learn attitude. After graduating from Baton Rouge high school in 1973 he worked as electrician and at various other jobs. In 1975, he and best friend, Dwane Hutrya started a print shop in Baton Rouge that was a success. The print shop was in business for 25 years until Dwane passed away from cancer. John moved to Tyler in 2005 to live with his mother. John retired in 2019 as an electrician working with Day Star Electric.
John attended Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Tyler where he gave freely of his time, knowledge and spirit to maintain “his” church. John was dearly loved all church members and Pastor Martin Moore.
John was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Willemina Minster, brother Dwane Hutrya, nephew SSgt. Adam W. Ogea.
John will be deeply missed by his serving family members, including sister Karen Nilson of Tyler, Anita Ogea and husband Billy of Rockdale, Texas, nephew Derek Nilson and wife Joni, of Tyler, niece Amy Ogea Casas and husband Jessie, of Rockdale, along with several great nieces and nephews, long time friend Tammy Alexander of Baton Rouge and his “church people”.
A memorial service will be held on September 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Our Saviour's Luther Church, 4900 Kinsey Dr., Tyler. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church in John’s memory. Interment of ashes will be at a later date.
