Joseph William Brooks, 86, of Chandler, TX, earned his highest-ranking wings at 12:56 p.m. on July 20th, 2019. He was born on December 29th, 1932 to Buena Agnes Ray and Luther Barbee Brooks in Greggton, TX. He married Eloise Brooks at Calvary Baptist Church in Gladewater, TX.
Joseph spent 22 years, 1 month and 6 days in the United States Air Force. He served first as an airplane mechanic and then later, was in charge of safety of the missile program on SAC bases in Roswell, NM, Grand Forks, ND and Jacksonville, AR. After retiring as a Master Sergeant, he started a carpentry business building piers on Lake Palestine and several houses in the Tyler area.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father, mother and wife Eloise. He is survived by his 2 children: Joe Brooks (Mayelene) and Rachael Diaz (Manuel); his sister Mary Cato of Candler, NC; his brothers Kenneth Brooks, Jack Brooks (Luther Ray), John M. and Donald. He has 4 grandchildren: Keith, Kendra, Sherry, and Jenny. He also has 9 great grandchildren: Austin, Maria, Joshua, Jessika, Joe Jr., Trevor, Jason, Matthias, and Traevis.
The military funeral service will be held Friday, July 26th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home located at 12053 TX 64, Tyler, TX 75704. Viewing will be 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. the same day. A reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Tyler Rose Garden.
