Laurel M Williams

Laurel McCorkle Williams passed away peacefully at Hospice of East Texas on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020. She was born in Limestone County, Texas on Thursday, July 26th, 1923 to Claud and Clara McCorkle.
Laurel was a graduate of Lindale High School and Tyler Junior College. She attended the University of Texas and Purdue University. During World War II, Laurel was one of 918 women who were chosen to stay firmly on the ground perfecting and building planes while their brothers flew into combat. She was proud to serve as one of the Curtiss-Wright Engineering Cadettes. Laurel held several administrative civil service positions while her husband Joe served in the US Air Force. After his retirement, they returned to Tyler and she served as the Bankruptcy Clerk for the Federal Bankruptcy Court under Judge Joe Huffstetler. Laurel also loved to travel and was a member of the Shriners RV Club. Her biggest thrill was playing slot machines and she had a special knack for being lucky.
Laurel was preceded in death by her parents; sister Claudia McCorkle Fuller; nephew Robert Mallory; niece Sheryl Fuller Dickey; and husbands Joe Cook and Ed Williams.
Laurel is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Leroy and Shirley Mallory; a niece, Carol Mallory Beggs; and two nephews, Bill Fuller and Charles Fuller.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of East Texas, First United Methodist Church of Lindale or Mustard Seed Ministries in care of Cedar Street United Methodist Church of Tyler.
A graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8th, 2020 at Tyler Memorial Park under the direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.
