He was raised in Dallas in Pleasant Grove and attended WW Samuell High School, graduating with the class of 1967.
Leroy served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972, attaining the rank of petty officer 2nd class.
He was united in marriage to Glenda LaCour in December of 1968 and had four children. They later divorced.
Leroy worked as a meat cutter for more than 20 years at Safeway. He also worked as a long-haul truck driver and retired from Trane Technologies.
He enjoyed fishing and tending to his flower beds. His favorite flowers were roses. Leroy will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, brother and son.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Velma McCoy; and two brothers, Gene and Jerry McCoy.
Leroy is survived by his brother, Roger (Juanita) McCoy; sister, Patricia Trevino; ex-wife, Glenda LaCour; daughters, Tonya Copeland of Arp, TX, Lisa (Ron) Ivy of Whitehouse, TX, Glenda (Willie) Sanders of Chandler, TX; son, Anthony McCoy of Tyler, TX; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 State Hwy 64 W, Tyler, TX 75704. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
