

Lon Joe Anderson, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026. Lon was born on October 12, 1934, in Waco, Texas, to Mary and L.C. Anderson. He lived a remarkable life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.
His commitment to serving others began when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge. Following his military service, Lon worked for the McLennan County Fire Department.
Lon’s life changed when he met the love of his life, Claudia Jean Sawyer. The two were married on October 4, 1959, beginning a beautiful partnership that lasted 63 years. Together they built a life filled with love, devotion, and countless cherished memories.
He later graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy and began a distinguished 36-year career with DPS. His dedication and accomplishments led to his recognition as a Special Texas Ranger, January of 1993. After retiring from DPS, Lon continued his commitment to public service by contracting with the United States Marshals Service for an additional 10 years.
Lon grew up on a farm outside of Waco, where his lifelong love of the land and animals began. He found great joy in caring for his cows, horses, dogs, goats, and chickens. He loved the outdoors and spent many happy days fishing, traveling, and enjoying the simple beauty of nature. Those who knew Lon will always remember his stories, his wisdom, his humor, and the joy he found in sharing memories of a life well lived.
Lon is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lora and Steve Savoie; his grandson, Chris Savoie; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Emma and Caleb.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Claudia Jean Sawyer Anderson.
A celebration of Lon’s life will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Tyler, Texas. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the SPCA of East Texas
Lon’s legacy of service, strength, devotion, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
