Samuel Garza, 78, of Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026. He was born on October 27, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas, to Manuel and Julia Louisa Garza. Raised in Morton, Texas, Samuel graduated from Morton High School in 1964, beginning a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and quiet strength.
In 1964, he married the love of his life, Erma Ramon Garza. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, dedication, and love, raising three children who were his pride and joy.
Sam was the proud owner and operator of Sam’s Backhoe Service in Tyler, where he worked faithfully for more than 40 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, his willingness to lend a hand, and the satisfaction he found in working alongside his sons. Providing for his family was one of his greatest accomplishments.
Outside of work, Sam’s greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his family. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, whether sharing stories, offering guidance, or simply enjoying their laughter. He also found peace and pride in tending to his chicken yard, raising game fowl for more than 50 years — a lifelong passion that reflected his patience and care.
To those who loved him, he was known affectionately as Sammy, Sam, Dad, Grandpa, and Papaw. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep love for family, and the quiet way he showed up for the people who mattered most.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Julia Louisa Garza; his beloved wife, Erma Ramon Garza; his daughter, Barbara A. Perkins; and his brothers, Andres Garza and Armando Garza.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts: his daughter, Rebecca Garza; his sons, Joe Garza and wife Ana Garza, and Nicolas Garza and wife Dorina Garza; his cherished grandchildren, Brittney L. Perkins, Ryan T. Reeves, Joanna N. Garza, Christian T. Garza, Sebastian L. Garza, Camila I. Garza; and his precious great-grandchild, Allison DelAngel.
A visitation will be held on February 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home – Cemetery & Mausoleum. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family will live on for generations to come.
