Thomas Gasper, 87, graduated to his heavenly home on February 5th. He was born in Chicago, IL, in 1932. He proudly served the US Air Force from 1953-1984, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of Shalimar United Methodist church and former member of Quitman United Methodist Church. He and his wife Barbara lived in Quitman for 16 years then moved to Florida in 2015.
Tom was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. Also, he was a very active member of the Quitman Forever Young Group serving as officer and other capacities. Tom enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bingo, playing cards and traveling worldwide.
He is preceded in death by his parents, former wife Ramona, brother-in-law George Green, and great grandsons, Kent & Jeremiah. He is survived by his sister Judy Green (TX), loving wife Barbara of 20 years; children and spouses Tom Gasper Jr (FL), Tina Stephens (TX), Alan & Linda Beuscher (TN), Steve & Cheryl Schamber (WI), Ron & Carolyn Mietzner (TX), Marte & Jeanne Smith (WI); several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, & nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations you wish to make be sent to the Paralyzed Veterans, Wounded Warriors or the USO. Graveside service will be held Saturday, February 15th at 11am at the Quitman City Cemetery. Tom’s celebration of life will be held immediately after, at the Quitman Forever Young Senior Center.
