Walter was a proud member of the National Guard and a dedicated worker throughout his life. He spent 17 years at Knox Glass in Palestine before beginning a long career at Kelly Springfield/Goodyear, where he worked faithfully for 32 years until his retirement in 2000.
Walter had a deep love for the outdoors, especially during his younger years when he could often be found working in his garden. Animals brought him great joy, but dogs held a special place in his heart. He also cherished time at the beach, found peace listening to his Elvis Presley records, and never missed a John Wayne film. Walter was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and remained loyal to the team through every season.
He is survived by his daughter Debbie Ramirez and her husband Joe; grandchildren Jennifer Landfair, Justin Wood, Jessica Byrd, and Colton Wood and fiance, Mariah; and great-grandchildren Ashlyn Delaplain and husband Michael, Alexis Landfair, Branton Wood, Calliegh Wood, Addisyn Byrd, Arianna Wood, and Ivy Wood. He is also survived by his sister, Maudie Ridenour.
Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Mae Willhite, and his daughter, Carla Kay Culpepper.
A private family graveside service will be held to honor his life and legacy.
Walter will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his quiet strength, enduring love for family, and the simple joys he embraced throughout his life.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Overton Healthcare and Heart to Heart Hospice for the love and care they provided.
