

William was a firefighter for the Tyler Fire department for 33 years (October 1, 1954 – January 1, 1987) ultimately retiring as Battalion Chief. His leadership, principles, and faithful service were recognized by the Tyler Fire Department with the Legends Award in 2005. William also ran a multi-generational rose farming operation, Crook Rose Inc.
He married the late Mary Alice Shirley in August of 1951 and they are survived by their four children; Victoria Flynn of North Richland Hills, Bill Crook of Tyler, Elizabeth Crook of Tyler and Barbra Stephens of Lindale. He has three grandchildren; Shaun Crook of Ben Wheeler, Shea Puryear of Longview, Tabatha Crook of Tyler and two great-grandchildren Nicole and Ethan Crook of Ben Wheeler. Shirley Westberry, who was William’s loving companion for the last two and a half years, filled his life with happiness and love.
William Crook lived a life of such integrity, showing grace and overwhelming love to his fellow men that his legacy will far surpass his surviving family. He was an exceptional man and will be exceptionally missed.
Visitation will be held Friday March 31, 2017 at 6pm at Tyler Memorial. Funeral services and burial will be held April 1, 2017 at 10am at Tyler Memorial.
